Frequently Asked Questions and Fault Finding
IMPORTANT:- The XTERMINATOR utilises electrical impulses to dissolve the sacrificial copper anode, it is imperative that BOTH the copper anode AND stainless steel cathode are kept clean to maximize efficiency. The use of POWER-KLENZ tablets or a mild kettle descaling solution ( used as per the manufacturers instructions) is ideal, immerse BOTH the copper anode AND stainless steel cathode into the liquid until all deposits are eradicated.
Failure to do this will inhibit the operation of the XTERMINATOR and activate the RED led light.
When replacing or cleaning the copper anode ensure the colour cap is located squarely and centrally on the stainless steel cathode otherwise the copper anode will not seat correctly.
DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THE SLOTS IN THE COPPER ANODE AND STAINLESS CATHODE OVER THE ELECTRICAL CONTACT POINTS AS THIS WILL JAM THE UNIT AND INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY.
1/ { Q.} When I put the XTERMINATOR unit in my pond the RED flashing light won’t extinguish!
{A.} Water quality is essential for the efficient operation of the XTERMINATOR , the ideal general hardness of approximately 8 (GH) 130ppm and a PH of at least PH7, the unit is supplied with 2 test strips to check the levels in the pond.
As a quick check to see if the pond water is at fault, fill a plastic bucket with fresh clean tap water ( not pond water ) and float the XTERMINATOR in the bucket. Switch the unit on and allow the LED’s to settle. If the GREEN light illuminates and remains illuminated then the pond water is at fault.
Carry out partial pond water changes with tap water until the imbalance is rectified.
( This method is based on the tap water being of suitable quality).
2/ {Q.} During use the GREEN light has extinguished and the RED flashing light remains on.
{A.} The vast majority of cases where this example has happened is due to the build up of calcium carbonate and other deposits fouling the INSIDE of the stainless steel cathode. See the IMPORTANT information section at the beginning of the page to rectify this problem. Other reasons for the RED flashing light may be poor water quality, worn out copper anode etc. Always refer to the instruction manual for more comprehensive instructions.
3/ {Q.} How much electricity does the XTERMINATOR consume?
{A.} The transformer that is supplied with the XTERMINATOR consumes a mere 30ma, 6.9va of power, an extremely small amount of power, this is pulsed by the microchip every 2 seconds for 24 hours. This enables the XTERMINATOR to not only be extremely efficient but also very cheap to operate.
4/ {Q.} How long is the cable with the XTERMINATOR?
{A.} The unit is supplied with 1.5mts of mains cable and 5mts of low voltage cable enabling it to be easily positioned in the optimum place. 3mt and 6mt extension cables are available from this site or from your local stockist.
5/ {Q.} Where should I locate the XTERMINATOR?
{A.} The optimum location of the XTERMINATOR is where there is a good circulation around the pond. The object here is to ensure that the dissolved copper ions are evenly and effectively distributed around the pond to reach all areas of blanketweed.
DO NOT POSITION THE XTERMINATOR WHERE WATER CAN FLOW OVER THE HEAD UNIT AND POSSIBLY GAIN ACCESS TO THE ELECTRONICS. Although the unit is manufactured to be water resistant it is NOT designed for submersion.
6/ {Q.} Can I locate the XTERMINATOR in the last chamber of my filtration system or in the header pool of my waterfall?
{A.} Do not locate the XTERMINATOR BEFORE the filtration system as the copper ions will have to pass all the way through the filtration system before entering the pond, some effectiveness could be lost due to the high efficiency of some filtration units, especially high output koi pond units. If the last chamber of the filtration unit is full of water the XTERMINATOR can be effectively located here.
The header pool of a waterfall is ideal as the copper ions will be efficiently washed out of the unit and distributed around the pond.
ONCE AGAIN, DO NOT POSITION THE XTERMINATOR WHERE WATER CAN FLOW OVER THE HEAD UNIT AND POSSIBLY GAIN ACCESS TO THE ELECTRONICS.
This is a generalisation of questions commonly asked. Full instructions are supplied in the comprehensive instruction manual supplied with the unit.
